Monday made 8 weeks since a brown recluse spider bit me. I had hoped to be reporting that I was healed and on the way back to workouts and horseback riding. LOL. Not so quite.

I am better. I am healing. But it’s a slow process.

I’m now able to work in my office for 5 or 6 hours a day. I’m able to walk normally but slowly. I’m tall, so I normally walk pretty fast and with purpose. I still can’t stand still very long and still have a decent size wound on my leg.

Day 49

The wound that keeps on giving…
The wound has really changed in nature since it swelled and drained. It is now a scab in the middle that is breaking away from the healthy skin and filling in with new skin. At one point, the scab revealed two pretty deep holes where the bite had been.

We shifted gears again in our treatment. It stays covered most of the time with a non-stick, sterile bandage. I’m washing with sterile saline solution every 12 hours and redressing.

We’ve gone from a 5″ x 9″ bandage a month ago to a 3″ x 4″ bandage. It actually fits under a 3″ x 3″ band-aid for taking showers!

Day 56

I’m unbelievably grateful that there is no muscle damage and that I’m on the mend. The healing feels painfully slow, but I keep hearing horror stories about people who had multiple surgeries, drainage tubes, and infections. I’m very grateful that we found activated charcoal and got the venom out of my leg before it could do more damage.

I’m struggling…
The hardest part for me is being so stationary. I love to move. I love to walk, hike, train my dogs, and ride my horses. I love sunshine. summer, and being outside.

I’ve had to spend a lot of time over the last 8 weeks in one of the recliners in our living room. Our living room is great for watching TV and winding down at the end of the day. But it’s the darkest room in the house. It’s a bit cave like.

Day 59

What I’m doing…
I’ve been spending as much time as I can in my office–the brightest room in the house–with the curtains open. Now that I can stand being in the car for more than 20 minutes, I’m tagging along as often as possible when my husband leaves the house. I even managed to get to a dog trial last week!

I’m also doing upper body and core workouts from my desk. You would be surprised how many trainers on YouTube created workout for people with leg injuries!

Continued prayers are appreciated. I’m hopeful that I can get back to regular non-spider updates! Make sure you subscribe for updates, because with all this couch time, I have exciting things coming!
