For the rest of the challenge, we’re returning to primary foods. We can’t get to them all, so I had to choose the four I thought might have the most impact on your health.

Today’s topic? Home Cooking. Today’s challenge: cook at least on meal at home.

Cooking at home is one of the best ways to improve the quality of your food. Unfortunately, most chefs and food industry professionals have little to no education in nutrition, so they only create foods that taste good, often to the detriment of your health. Believe it or not… Food can taste good AND be nutritious.

It’s a misconception that good cooking has to take a long time or be complicated. Most of my favorite dishes are very simple to make, and there are a lot of tricks to save you time in the kitchen. If you just plain hate to cook, don’t worry, I have some ideas for you too.

Tips for home cooking:

  • Use fresh, local ingredients whenever possible. Use frozen when you can’t get fresh.
  • Cook once eat twice. Always make at least twice what you need for one meal, so you have enough for a second meal.
  • Keep it simple. One of my favorite meals is roasted vegetables over rice. It’s just 5 ingredients, three of which are vegetables.
  • Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Some grocery stores offer cooking classes. If you have a friend whose food you always love, ask him/her teach you how to make a recipe.
  • Experiment with spices and condiments. Varying tastes helps keep home cooking interesting.
  • If you really don’t like to cook, check out raw food recipes. You can use nuts and seeds for a protein source, so no need to cook.
