We’ve talked about three of the four primary food on the Integrative Nutrition Plate. Today and tomorrow, we’re going to explore the last one: Spirituality.

Before you run screaming from the challenge because you think I’m going to recruit you to my church or make you shave your head and join a convent, relax! We’re just going to explore what spirituality means to you.

In a general sense, spirituality involves daily practices that connect you to other people and to something bigger than yourself. You might refer to it as the universe, God, or a Higher Power. Whatever term you use, it’s that thing that reminds you that everything is connected and that you serve a greater purpose.

Religion is not spirituality. A religion should provide you with spirituality if it’s doing its job, but that isn’t always the case. You don’t have to be a part of a religion to find spirituality, and if you are a part of a religion, it doesn’t automatically mean you find spirituality. Spirituality comes with intentionality.

Take a few minutes today to explore the following questions:

  • What language do you use to describe the force that connects everyone and everything?
  • What, if anything, do you do every day to connect and ground yourself?
  • On a scale of 1-10, how spiritual do you consider yourself to be?
  • On a scale of 1-10, how connected to others are you?
  • On a scale of 1-10, how connected to the world around you are you?
  • What one spiritual practice would you like to explore?

Happy Eating!
