This week I broke my own diet rule, and this morning I’m suffering the consequences. My hands, knees, and feet are swollen, and my weight is up 5 pounds from Wednesday. I also have my first sinus headache in nearly 3 months.

What did I do? I ate something without reading the label. šŸ™

We have a brand of bean chips we love. Three simple ingredients. Beans, sunflower oil, and salt. Since they have oil, we only eat them as a treat. I like the the white bean, and my husband likes the black bean.

I noticed the store had a new flavor: lime chips! Lime chips used to be a favorite processed snack in our house, so I was so excited to have what I thought was a whole food version, so I asked my husband to grab a bag while he was picking up some fill in items.

We ate them. They were delicious. I woke up yesterday miserable. Only then did I read the label. Nothing else I ate Wednesday was unusual. Sure enough the lime flavoring added two ingredients I can’t eat: Maltodextrin and Cane Sugar.

Whole Great Northern Beans, Sunflower Oil, Rice Flour, Tapioca, Maltodextrin, Sea Salt, Cane Sugar, Citric Acid, Parsley, Non-GMO Natural Flavor, Lime Oil.

So what am I doing to fix it? I’m eating light and super clean until I feel better, which should be Sunday.

Even health coaches in training make mistakes. The secret is to learn from the experience and do better next time. Health is a journey. Not a destination.
